Revolutionary Players

Mechanics Institute Medal, 1826.   19th century Prize Medal for Birmingham Mechanics Institute, 1826. Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery.

Explore:   The Revolutionary Players website presents material from the counties of Derbyshire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire exploring aspects of the history of the West Midlands during the Industrial Revolution between c.1700 and 1830. The project team has been working with museums, archives and libraries across the region to secure sources, photograph collections and digitise items. Material is presented in context and a number of writers and researchers have contributed to the site.

Content:   During the 18th and early 19th centuries, the Midlands region became nationally and internationally significant for achievements in science, industry, art and culture. Focal points include the Lunar men, women writers, industries, transport, changes to the landscape, industrial poetry and anti-slavery. Historical material is accessed on the website by following different routes.
